MADRID, 5 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The person in charge of Economy of Podemos and Secretary of State for Social Rights, Nacho Álvarez, has highlighted that it is necessary to advance to an agreement of “redistribution of income”, with a rise in wages to which the CEOE is opposing, so as “not seize the economic system”.
He has also claimed the need to legislate a “relief” of mortgages, in line with the proposal to limit the rise in mortgage loans to 0.1% for a year that the purple formation has already proposed to the PSOE.
This was highlighted during his speech at a discussion table dedicated to the economic situation, within the framework of Podemos’s ‘Autumn Uni’ that takes place this Saturday to rearm the party on an ideological level.
In this sense, Álvarez has stressed that in the face of inflation and the possibility of a slowdown in the growth of the economy, the country needs to advance in a great wealth redistribution agreement, so that business margins take over a substantial part from the margins businesses, in order to increase wages.
A measure that, in his opinion, is good for the population and the economic system itself, since in this way the level of consumption is maintained, while in the face of the rise in interest rates Álvarez has advocated extending the consensus on the regulatory level of good practices in mortgage matters, in order to limit the increase.
He has also assessed that the first legislature of the Coalition Government “is being an exceptional legislature from the economic and social point of view”. For this reason, he pointed out, “necessity has been made a virtue and they have had to speed up compliance with the coalition agreement to deal with temporary situations that required ambition”
“After a pandemic and facing a shock derived from a war in the heart of Europe, which is having an impact on all Europeans, the measures taken by the Government were a necessary condition to protect citizens”, has added.
The also Secretary of State for Social Rights has remarked that “these measures are going to remain”. “We have learned that in the face of a crisis it is a huge mistake to do what was done a decade ago. Faced with those PP policies that were based on cuts and austerity, the alternative of fiscal expansion constitutes a much better tool. It is much better to spend money on maintaining people in their jobs than spending it when people go unemployed. Facing crises differently was a necessary condition”, he said.
Likewise, Álvarez has defended that it is necessary “to try to build social shields that protect people and companies. “It is possible to manage crises in another way, without cuts and without austerity”, he has sentenced
“Measures such as the Minimum Vital Income, the increase in the Interprofessional Minimum Wage or the labor reform are measures that are turning our society upside down. Years ago, having a job was not a guarantee of reaching the end of the month, little by little we are turning that around “, has indicated to emphasize that new indefinite contracts have risen from 10 to almost 50% since its entry into force.
For this reason, he stressed, “it is essential to maintain the measures to fight inflation for 2023 and reinforce them”. “It is also crucial to maintain the deployment of European funds and that they reach the productive fabric as quickly as possible,” he concluded.
