VIANA DO CASTELO, 4 Nov. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has denied this Friday that the PSOE sent an emissary to Belgium to negotiate with former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont his possible return to Spain, as he himself maintains.

“The answer is very simple, no,” Sánchez said when questioned about it at the press conference he offered with the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa, after the celebration of the XXXIII Hispano-Portuguese summit in Viana do Castelo.

Also, regarding whether Puigdemont has lied, the chief executive has limited himself to pointing out: “I can speak for myself.” In this way, Sánchez responded to the words of the former pro-independence president – who has been on the run from Spanish justice for five years -, who stated that he had received visits from members of the PSOE to generate “expectations of good treatment via reform of the criminal code and a pardon as long as he agreed to appear before the Supreme Court”.

“I’m sure Pedro Sánchez knows what I’m talking about,” he wrote in a two-page letter that he shared via Twitter last Sunday, October 30, the day he was five years abroad after 1-O.

“I have not looked for how I would spend fewer years in a Spanish prison nor have I ever expected the benefits that apply to others. On this issue I have been explicit in public and in private before all the interlocutors who have addressed me to propose happy solutions “, he added.

Since Puigdemont stated the above, the Government had not clarified whether members of the PSOE had come to visit him and had focused on criticizing the PP for accepting the version of the former Junts leader as good.

“The PP has a very deep level of despair when they give Mr. Puigdemont a category of authority,” said the Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Félix Bolaños, when questioned about it, but did not rule on the substance of the affair.
