MADRID, 25 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The government spokeswoman, Isabel Rodríguez, insisted on Tuesday that there is no news on the reform of the crime of sedition, and that the Executive does not have a sufficient majority to undertake it, although it is willing to do so. In addition, she has pointed out that right now the parliamentary priority is the approval of the General State Budgets for 2023.

This was expressed in the press conference after the Council of Ministers and he insisted that the Government’s position, “expressed by the President of the Government” is that “it would be convenient to harmonize the crime of sedition with European standards” but that “it is not seems” that there is a sufficient parliamentary majority to undertake it. “There is nothing new”, he has insisted.

Faced with repeated questions on this matter, Rodríguez has indicated that the Government has not changed its position and that “it cannot speak for other groups”, referring to ERC. He has therefore not clarified whether there is a firm proposal or whether it has been accepted by the pro-independence party. “We do not see a change in majorities that would allow progress in this direction and we are not going to speak on behalf of other groups,” he maintained.

In this regard, government sources maintain that the matter is not on the table and that it is not a bargaining chip for other negotiations. In addition, they specify that they will see what the ERC’s position is “if they talk” about the subject.

The spokeswoman, in addition, has maintained that “at the moment” the “parliamentary priority” for the Government is in the debate to carry out the PGE. Thus, she has underlined that the processing of the amendments to the totality is now beginning – which the Government hopes to overcome – and then they will continue to advance on that basis. “The priority of the Government today in the parliamentary sphere is in the PGE”, she has finished off.
