He maintains that, if true, these cuts only “infer” a “criticism” towards the media

MADRID, 5 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The former general secretary of the Popular Party, María Dolores de Cospedal, has assured the judge of the ‘Villarejo case’ that there is a “manifest impossibility” of verifying and corroborating the “authenticity and integrity” of the latest audios in which she spoke with the retired commissioner about the alleged espionage to the ex-treasurer of the Luis Bárcenas formation.

In a letter sent to the head of the Central Court of Instruction Number 6, Manuel García Castellón, to which Europa Press has had access, the former minister’s representation emphasizes that it cannot be verified whether these files are reliable as “there is no of the original recordings. “Even if the digital media were required to contribute to the procedure, it is obvious that they do not have the original sources of the recordings,” he maintains.

Specifically, in those audios published by ‘El País’, Cospedal asked Villarejo, in a conversation in January 2013, to “stop” the matter of Bárcenas’ “little book”, expressing his concern that the former treasurer’s papers were in the possession of of journalists.

Cospedal’s lawyer maintains that, although these conversations “were verifiable”, they are “irrelevant” audios. “Not only because they are completely unrelated to the object of this separate piece, but because they do not provide any new fact not known by that Court when ordering the provisional dismissal of my client, which has been confirmed by the Chamber”, he argues .

That is why the lawyer of the former general secretary of the ‘popular’ opposes the appeal presented by the PSOE, which asked the instructor to investigate Cospedal for ‘Operation Kitchen’, considering that he demanded “information” and gave “guidelines ” of what should be done, participating “directly” in the espionage of Bárcenas.

The Socialists presented this document after the instructor rejected the PSOE and Podemos request on September 13, to which the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor joined, to reopen ‘Kitchen’ based on the new audios. Specifically, they requested that the former minister be accused of the conversations that he would have had with Villarejo.

“Practically all of the audio cuts provided by the PSOE have absolutely no relationship, neither with the object of this separate piece, nor with my represented Mrs. Cospedal”, insists their representation, which ensures that “what is inferred ” of these excerpts, if true, is a “criticism” of the former leader towards the media.

Specifically, he explains, “before the possible publication of certain false facts, without evidence, thereby causing serious damage to the party.” “I would make a generic comment that ‘it would be better to be able to stop it.’ That is, it would be better to be able to stop these false and unjustified facts from being published in these media outlets,” he says.

These are facts, she continues, that only corroborate that “she had conversations with Mr. Villarejo for the sole purpose of talking about press news (like her husband Ignacio López de Hierro, from whom the relationship with Mr. Villarejo originates ), and this because of the relationships he had with the media”.

In his brief, Cospedal’s lawyer insists that these audios cannot be “considered as new facts for the purpose of reopening the investigation.” “In the hypothetical case of being true (which we do not recognize), there is absolutely no evidence of criminality in them that could justify, even minimally, an eventual revocation of the firm provisional dismissal,” he repeats, charging against “spurious interests” of the popular accusation exercised by the socialists.
