MADRID, 4 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The PSOE spokesman in Congress, Patxi López, has underlined this Tuesday his willingness to fulfill the commitment made with NATO so that the Defense budget reaches 2 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the year 2029.

“The PSOE has always stated that we are going to fulfill the commitments we have in terms of defense,” he stressed at a press conference in Congress, although without detailing the content of the agreement reached between the partners of the Government for the Budgets of next year .

The socialist spokesman has insisted that the increase in military spending is an international commitment “that concerns the country.” “And we fulfill the country’s commitments,” he asserted.

In this context, López has said he did not know that his parliamentary group voted last week against a PP initiative to reach that 2% of GDP in Defense. “I have no idea if we voted against this, I don’t know everything,” he said.

Specifically, it was a point of a motion resulting from an interpellation presented by the ‘popular’ that urged the Government to guarantee that 2% military investment in this year’s Budgets and that was rejected with the vote of the PSOE and United We Can.
