The number of new commercial companies fell 14.4% in July compared to the same month of 2021, to a total of 7,180 companies, its lowest figure since September last year, when just over 6,600 companies were created, according to the data released this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With the fall in July, the creation of companies chains four consecutive months of year-on-year declines after falling by 8.2% in April, 4.6% in May and 6.8% in June.

For the constitution of the 7,180 companies created in July, more than 318 million euros were subscribed, which is 37.2% less than in the same month of 2021, while the average subscribed capital, which stood at 44,340 euros, fell 26.7% year-on-year.

While the creation of companies decreased, in July the dissolution of companies increased, 8% compared to the same month last year, to a total of 1,624.

In the first seven months of the year, 3.3% fewer companies have been incorporated than in the same period in 2021 and 7.7% more companies have disappeared.

Of the 1,624 companies that closed their doors in July, 74.3% did so voluntarily, 13.7% due to a merger with other companies and the remaining 12% for other reasons.

20.6% of the commercial companies that were created in the seventh month of the year were dedicated to trade and 17.8% to real estate, financial and insurance activities. As for the dissolved companies by main economic activity, the highest percentages are in commerce (18.6%) and in real estate, finance and insurance (16.7%).

For its part, the number of mercantile companies that increased capital fell by 5.3% in July, to 2,070 companies. The capital subscribed in these increases exceeded 1,582 million euros, a figure 63.9% lower than that of July 2021, while the average capital was 764,261 euros, 61.9% less.

MADRID AND CATALONIA LEAD THE CREATION OF COMPANIES

The communities that created the largest number of companies in July were Madrid (1,665 companies), Catalonia (1,391) and Andalusia, where 1,200 companies were created. The regions with the fewest companies in the seventh month of the year were La Rioja (22), Navarra (32) and Cantabria (49).

All regions created fewer companies in July than in the same month of 2021. The greatest annual decreases were in La Rioja (-46.3%), Asturias (-28.8%), Castilla y León (-27.1% ) and Galicia (-26.8%), while the most moderate cuts were registered in Cantabria (-2%) and the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community (-4.1% in both cases).

Considering the dissolved commercial companies, the communities with the highest number of dissolutions in July were Madrid (555), Andalucía (247) and Comunidad Valenciana (173). On the contrary, the autonomous communities with the fewest dissolved commercial companies were Navarra (5), La Rioja (6) and Cantabria (12).

Ten communities increased their number of business dissolutions in July, mainly Murcia (175%), Asturias (65%) and Cantabria (50%), while seven cut it, especially La Rioja (-50%), the Basque Country (-32 .7%) and Galicia (-30.1%).

THE CREATION OF COMPANIES FALLS 19% IN MONTHLY RATE

In monthly terms (July over June), the incorporation of new companies decreased by 19.4%, while dissolutions fell by 4.4%.

In both cases, these are the largest monthly decreases in a month of July in the last five years.
