Spanish athletes Sara Gallego, Irene Sánchez-Escribano and Carolina Robles have made it to the finals of 400m hurdles, the first, and 3,000m obstacles, the other two, at the European Athletics Championships, which are taking place in Munich ( Germany), while Mariano García, Adrián Ben and Lucía Pinacchio will be in the 800m semifinals and Daniel Rodríguez, in the 200m.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Gallego guaranteed her place in her first European final by finishing first in the first of the semifinals, in which she used a time of 55.16 after coming back after going third to the penultimate hurdle. In the men’s event, Jesús David Delgado could not qualify as he finished eighth in his semifinal with a time of 50.32.
For their part, Irene Sánchez-Escribano, by positions, and Carolina Robles, by times, guaranteed the presence of two Spaniards in the final of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where Blanca Fernández, from León, twelfth in her series, will not be. The woman from Toledo was fourth (9:41.12) in the second series, the same in which the Sevillian finished seventh (9:45.70) to enter with the second fastest play-off time.
In the 800 meters, Mariano García and Adrián Ben advanced to the semifinals, and Álvaro de Arriba was eliminated. The Murcian, indoor world champion of the distance, slipped into the next round with the third fastest time (1:47.66), and the Galician finished second in the fourth heat (1:47.64).
In the women’s event, Lucía Pinacchio entered the semis with the best play-off time (2:01.63), with a personal best fourth in her series, and Marina Martínez said goodbye to the competition after finishing in 2:03.45.
For his part, Daniel Rodríguez from Granada also qualified for the 200-meter semifinals, third in his series with a time of 20.80, while Lucía Carrillo did not advance by finishing seventh in the second series with a time of 23.64.
In javelin, the Biscayan Arantza Moreno could not reach the European final when she finished sixteenth in the classification, far from the 12 best marks that gave access to the fight for the medals. Finally, in the heptathlon, María Vicente withdrew due to physical discomfort after completing three nulls in the length.
