The Spanish athlete Mohamed Katir won the silver medal in the final of the 5,000 meters of the European Athletics Championships, which is taking place in the German town of Munich, after signing an exceptional race being only surpassed by the world record holder, the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
Katir always remained in the leading group and decided to join the attack of the fastest with three laps to go. The Spaniard did not give in and fought for victory against Ingebrigtsen but gave in in the final stretch. In addition, the also Spanish Abdessamad Oukhelfen and Adel Mechaal finished twelfth and fourteenth, respectively.
