MADIRD, 10 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A gallop by Kylian Mbappé was decisive in achieving the definitive draw (1-1) for the French team in their visit to Austria, a duel played this Friday at the Ernst Happel in Vienna, which leaves the ‘bleus’ as bottom of the group 1 in League A of the ‘Nations League’.
The point keeps the team led by Didier Deschamps alive, but mortgages their access to the ‘Final Four’ next year. It has been a difficult start for the reigning world champion, who is still without victory in this competition after three days.
This Friday, Austria went ahead on the scoreboard thanks to a goal by Andreas Weimann, who connected an excellent play by three of his teammates in the small area. The last pass was from Konrad Laimer, who appeared like an exhalation from the right flank to make it 0-1 on a plate when the 37th minute was running.
France played with Benzema -the whole game- Griezmann and Tchouaméni as starters, while Mbappé reappeared after his knee injury in the final half hour to give his team more air. The PSG attacker was superb in a counterattack that ended as if it were easy. His support was Christopher Nkunku, with whom he made a wall at midfield height.
The rest was a piece of cake for Mbappé, which allows saving the furniture of a France that is leaving many doubts six months before facing the World Cup. For its part, Austria took the point for granted by placing second in the group, just behind Denmark, leader with 6 units, who conceded their first defeat against Croatia.
The checkered team -with Luka Modric during the second half- was enough of a solitary goal from Mario Pasalic, with 20 minutes to go, to get the head in the League of Nations. The locals equalized in the 87th minute through Jonas Wind, but the VAR annulled the action, frustrating the Danes.
