BILBAO, 10 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, has considered the situation generated with Algeria in recent days “very worrying” and has urged “diplomacy” to “try to get in touch and fix the issue.”
Garamendi offered this Friday in Vitoria, within the framework of the SEA Assembly, a conference on ‘Challenges and keys for the future in the face of the challenges and uncertainties of the economy’. Previously, and to questions from the media, the head of the employers’ association has been questioned about the suspension by the Algerian Government of commercial relations with Spain and its possible impact on gas supply.
In this sense, Garamendi has stated that the situation generated is “very worrying” and has warned that practically 25% of the gas consumed in Spain comes from Algeria.
He also recalled that the exports of Spanish companies to the African country amount to 4,000 million euros. “We are talking about thousands of SMEs and it is a very worrying issue,” she insisted.
For all these reasons, he has urged “diplomacy” to “try to get in touch and fix the issue.” “Just yesterday a gas plant in the US caught fire and the price of gas has risen 11%. It is a very worrying issue for us, which is going to affect inflation,” he warned.
Lastly, he maintained that although it seems that the gas supply is guaranteed, “this does not mean that the price is going to be what it is” at the moment. “That’s the problem,” she finished.
