BRUSSELS, 24 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The European Agency for Asylum (EUAA) has begun the deployment of agents to the border of Moldova to support the authorities of this country in managing the arrival of thousands of refugees fleeing the invasion Ukrainian Russian.

This is the first deployment of the European asylum agency in a third country and it starts with a small contingent of six experts in Chisnau, including translators, where they will provide support in the context of the European refugee transfer program and will have the help of the Moldovan security forces.

The EUAA mission may increase in number later depending on the needs identified in the country, as indicated by the agency in a statement, in which it also recalls that it works in “close collaboration” with the member states, other European agencies and international organizations.

The European Union also cooperates with the Moldovan authorities through the European Border Control Agency (Frontex), which agreed last March to send agents to help control refugees arriving from Ukraine.
