The lawyer and activist Cecilia Monzón has been shot dead this Saturday when she was aboard her vehicle in the Mexican municipality of San Pedro Cholula in Puebla.

According to information collected by the Mexican press, two armed individuals have murdered the lawyer who was a well-known feminist activist for her work with victims of gender violence and the defense of women’s rights.

In addition, Cecilia was well known in the public sphere for her political activity. She was a supporter of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and a candidate for the municipal presidency of San Pedro Cholula under the initials of the Green Ecologist (PVEM), as reported by ‘El Universal’.

As reported by the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) of Cholula, the activist was chased by two men on a motorcycle.

The Mexican Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation to clarify the facts. So far, those responsible for the attack have not been arrested.

Various organizations have called a demonstration for this Sunday in front of the Puebla State Attorney General’s Office to demand justice for the murder of Cecilia Monzón.
