MADRID, 10 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The second contingent that Spain has sent to Morocco to help in the rescue tasks took off after 6:00 p.m. this Sunday with 30 members on board of the Special Emergency and Immediate Response Unit of the Community of Madrid (ERICAM) and four dogs specialized search and rescue team.
This team thus joins the contingent of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) –made up of 56 soldiers and four dogs– that is already in Morocco, according to sources from the Ministry of Defense.
The plane has taken off from the Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base and the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior is managing the deployment on the ground of both teams.
There are already at least 2,122 people who have died and 2,421 who have been injured as a result of the earthquake that shook the High Atlas region, near Marrakech, on the night of Friday to Saturday, according to the latest official report.
