A voter who has exercised his right to vote on May 28 at the Padre Méndez polling station in the capital of Almería, has introduced three envelopes into the ballot box at the same time, which has led to the paralysis of voting at 09:05 a.m.
The National Police has identified the person and the Electoral Board has resolved that, at the close of election day, two envelopes be drawn at random before counting begins.
This was reported by the Government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, who stressed that voting at this polling station resumed at 9:20 a.m. and, after this incident, voting has continued as normal.
This has been the only relevant incident in Almería, the first province of Andalusia to communicate the constitution of all its polling stations, before 09:00. In total there are 837 polling stations and in which the 483,543 voters from Almeria called to the polls will be able to vote.
In the case of the province, the municipal elections will allow citizens to elect 1,015 councilors who will integrate the municipal corporations of the 103 city councils
In Almería, there has only been a decrease in the number of councilors in the municipality of Velefique, which lost two councilors as the scale of the population range varied, while they have increased in nine municipalities: Bédar (2), Benizalón (2) , Fines (2), Fondón (2), Garrucha (4), Huércal-Overa (4), Pulpí (4), Roquetas de Mar (2) and Turrillas (2), adding a total increase of 24 councilors.
The electoral census is 483,543 (470,718 Spaniards residing in Spain, and 12,825 citizens of the EU and countries with an agreement). In the previous municipal elections, held in May 2019, the total census amounted to 475,287 (458,958 Spaniards and 16,329 foreigners). The census reference date is January 30, 2023.
On the other hand, the new Spanish voters residing in Almería who have turned 18 since the 2019 municipal elections, amount to a total of 26,762.
In Almería, a total of 2,511 people attend the polling stations, after having been designated by lottery among the citizens of the province. Likewise, another 5,022 people have been designated by lottery to replace, if necessary, the presidents and members of the 837 polling stations.
On the other hand, both the Government Sub-delegation in Almería and the Electoral Census Office have put 55 members of their staff at the service of the process who, throughout the day, will be in charge of guaranteeing the correct development in each and every one of the facets included in the aforementioned process, as well as being able to attend to any contingency that may arise as quickly as possible. In addition, 460 representatives of the Administration have also been appointed to the polling stations.
With regard to the Security device that will guarantee the normality of the electoral process, it should be noted that the corresponding Security Plan has been established, in which 434 members of the National Police Corps and 1,075 of the Civil Guard participate, to whom we must add another 250 members of the Local Police from 39 municipalities that collaborate in said device.
