MADRID, 1 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the United Podemos parliamentary group in Congress, Jaume Asens, has assured that his party will participate in the debate on the motion of no confidence and will treat the Vox candidate for the motion of no confidence, Ramón Tamames, with respect, as he is a elderly person with 89 years, although he criticizes that he participates in this “gross”.
In statements to TVE, collected by Europa Press, he stressed that Tamames “is not a good candidate” and he himself, in a speech in the 1980s, said that he could not be a leader of the PCE, a formation to which he belonged at the time, someone who had over 65 years.
“He himself is 89 and is going to turn 90 and it seems to us that he is not the person that Spain needs and even less when he goes hand in hand in Vox. We in the debate, obviously, are going to participate and explain what we have done during this legislature and unmask the government’s proposal and explain our program,” he said.
In turn, he has said about Tamames that “each one is the master of his biography” but that it is a serious mistake to join Vox’s motion and “whiten his speech”, given that if this party had been able to, it would have outlawed the PCE to which belonged to another time.
“Mr. Tamames participated in the anti-Franco fight and Vox does not deny the dictatorship. And in fact, it says that we live in a dictatorship and that Spanish democracy is a dictatorship,” Asens explained.
Asens’s position is in contrast to that expressed yesterday by the spokesman for the confederal group, Pablo Echenique, who said that they are still in debate and have not decided on the response they will give to Vox’s motion of no confidence, being clear that the initiative is simply a “battle” of this formation with the PP.
