Security and high inflation, far from being a problem for tourists, according to the Government

MADRID, 27 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Argentina landed at the 44th edition of the International Tourism Fair, Fitur 2024, with the aim of strengthening the arrival of Spanish tourists to the country, at the same time that it is investigating opening up to other markets in Europe.

In this sense, the new Government of Argentina, represented by the recently appointed Undersecretary of Tourism, Yanina Martínez, intends to continue expanding air connections between Argentina and Europe, for which it is in meetings with different companies in the sector.

For Martínez, the link between Argentina and the Old Continent is “special”, so it remains a priority to focus on this market and consolidate the “important” air connectivity that it has with countries like Spain. “We seek to strengthen consolidated markets and open up to some new ones,” she explained in an interview with Europa Press.

In line with this strategy, the Government is promoting an open skies policy with which it aims to attract more airlines to the country and “favor” greater connectivity. Among other decisions, the Milei Executive has taken the first steps to privatize Aerolíneas Argentinas, the country’s main airline company.

This change will not mean less connectivity, as Martínez explained to Europa Press, and a service will continue to be offered parallel to that of other airlines so that all the provinces of Argentina are reached and internal connection is guaranteed.

“We are establishing the route plan, reviewing those that are going to be maintained and always seeking to ensure that it results in a beneficial strategy for travelers. It is a matter of analysis and it takes time, but connectivity is guaranteed,” he commented.

Currently, Argentina is immersed in an inflation crisis, with an interannual price index that has exceeded 200% at the end of 2023. Despite being a dramatic issue for Argentines, the undersecretary has pointed out that it is not a problem for the arrival of tourists to the country, since they barely perceive the impact.

Precisely, tourism can play a fundamental role in attracting foreign currency to the country, becoming a key tool for economic development and attracting foreign investments.

One of the plans they are working on from the tourism area is the creation of an investment agenda so that international businessmen know the possibilities of Argentina under Milei’s mandate, with an economic plan that is “clear and reliable.”

“We will begin to work with the UNWTO on this plan starting in February. There is very great interest in Argentina and investors need a stability agenda with which to approach us and be generators of currency,” Martínez said.

Finally, the head of tourism highlighted that Argentina continues to be one of the safest destinations in Latin America, very friendly and attentive to visitors. Thus, she has rejected any possibility that violent events or new general strikes, such as the one experienced this week in the country, are an impediment for tourists who want to know Argentina’s diversity.
