Body affirms that the Government will prioritize training and professional experience in the election of the candidate for governor

The Minister for Digital Transformation and the Public Service, José Luis Escrivá, has assured that being governor of the Bank of Spain is not a position in which “he is thinking, nor something that he has in mind or is relevant”, asked about the possibility of him running as successor to Pablo Hernández de Cos.
“Let them come to me with this story, honestly, no,” is what the head of the Executive told journalists after the presentation of the ‘Kit Consulting’, the advisory plan for the digitalization of SMEs endowed with 300 million euros that It was made known to the public this Friday in Madrid.
The election of the next governor of the Bank of Spain is an issue that has become relevant in recent weeks given the imminent expiration of the current person in charge, Hernández de Cos, who has been at the head of the institution for the last six years. .
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has a list of names of the “successor”, as he himself has dropped, at the proposal of the Minister of Economy, Carlos Body, despite the fact that the designation has not yet been finalized.
If the date of his dismissal arrives – in the month of June – and there is no decision, it will be the deputy governor, Margarita Delgado, who will assume this responsibility temporarily and at most until September, when her own mandate expires.
For his part, the Minister of Economy, Commerce and Business, Carlos Body, has assured, regarding the replacement of the current governor of the Bank of Spain, who ends his term in June, that the name has not “yet” been finalized.
“We are making an assessment of who the candidates for the position could be. They are sufficiently prepared to continue the work, the excellent work that the current governor has been doing,” he explained in statements to Onda Cero reported by Europa Press.
Asked if Cos’s successor will be someone related to the PSOE, Corps has stressed that for this type of position “the important thing is the training and professional experience” of the candidates. “That is what also has to give peace of mind to citizens, that at the head of the Bank of Spain there will be a perfectly qualified person,” he concluded.
