MADRID, 19 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has guaranteed this Wednesday that, if he becomes president after 23J, he will “reduce tensions” in Catalonia, but has warned that he will not “submit minorities” who “want to break the laws “, in reference to the independentistas, to whom he has transferred that he will restore the crime of sedition.
This is how the ‘popular’ has expressed himself after the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, predicted on Tuesday at an informative breakfast organized by Europa Press “situations worse than in 2017” in Catalonia, referring to the illegal referendum on October 1, in the event that PP and Vox can govern in coalition after 23J.
The PP candidate for the Presidency of the Government has focused on “reducing all tensions in the country as a whole”, arguing that, in his opinion, it is “the fundamental thing” that an Executive must do: “Reduce tension, unite to society, not fracture it, not divide it and not stress it”, he summarized in an interview with LaSexta.
Of course, although he advocates “talking to everyone”, he has indicated that he will not “submit minorities who want to break the laws”. “Comply with the Constitution throughout the territory, call it Catalonia, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha or the Basque Country,” he insisted.
In this context, Feijóo has been required to assess the words of the ERC leader, Oriol Junqueras, who in the central act of his formation’s campaign and accompanied by the EH Bildu coordinator, Arnaldo Otegi, promised the holding of self-determination referendums in Catalonia and Basque Country.
The ‘popular’ candidate has transferred to Junqueras and ERC that a referendum on self-determination “does not fit in the Constitution, the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia or the European Union”. “Therefore, we cannot do that,” he added.
In addition, it has warned the independence leader that, if he becomes president, he will restore the crime of sedition, increase the penalties for crimes of embezzlement and, “to avoid problems and tensions,” he will classify the crime of illegal referendum in the Penal Code. .
Finally, Feijóo has reiterated that his absence in the RTVE electoral debate on Wednesday is precisely because Junqueras or Otegi have not been included in it. “They should be in that debate and they could say what they said at the rally and (the president, Pedro) Sánchez explain to us what he is going to do because those are his partners,” he stressed.
