The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, thanked this Saturday the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, for his “efforts to achieve the release of two Americans who had been held hostage in Gaza” and has reiterated his call for “the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.”

Guterres has called for “once again sustained and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza”, as well as “full respect for International Humanitarian Law and the protection of civilians” in the region, as stated in a statement published in the UN portal.

Likewise, Guterres has urged the international community to make “a concerted effort (…) to prevent a broader regional extension of the conflict.”

Previously, this Saturday, the United Nations representative asked international leaders meeting in Cairo to negotiate an immediate ceasefire between Hamas and Israel and put an end to the “damned nightmare” that this new conflict in a region is being. that is “one step away from the precipice.”
