Junts wants to make differences with a broader amnesty and an “international mediator”
BARCELONA, 5 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The PSOE and Junts have restarted and redirected the “disagreement” that occurred on Friday between both formations to move towards an agreement that allows the inauguration of the acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
“There is no agreement yet,” maintain various sources consulted by Europa Press, who admit that the negotiations became very complicated on Friday and removed the possibility of an agreement.
Despite everything, the weekend has served for the Socialists and Junts to resume contacts with the aim of straightening out the negotiations.
On Friday, contacts between the PSOE and Junts cooled down because both parties maintained disagreements over the scope of the amnesty and its wording, starting with the statement of reasons.
From Junts, they made it clear that the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont was not willing to give in on certain issues, among which is the fact that the amnesty included those affected by the ‘Volhov’ case, which investigates the alleged diversion of funds public for activities linked to the independence process.
One of those affected in that case is the head of the office of the former Catalan president, Josep Lluís Alay, Puigdemont’s right-hand man, but they also wanted the amnesty to include other names such as that of his lawyer, Gonzalo Boye, and that of the former president of the Parliament and president of Junts, Laura Borràs.
The break on Friday has served, according to Junts sources, for the party to put “more demands” on the table to mark differences with respect to the amnesty text agreed between the PSOE and ERC.
They also ask for the figure of an “international mediator” and thus go beyond the verifier agreed between socialists and republicans, with a presence at a party table and not at the negotiation table between governments.
Thus, both parties are forced to negotiate before the end of the period that would entail the scenario of an electoral repetition, despite admitting that if there is an agreement it will be a complicated legislature, according to the various sources consulted by Europa Press.
