MADRID, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Participation in the general elections taking place in Argentina this Sunday has reached 29.6 percent at noon, according to an assessment released by the country’s Electoral Chamber.

This percentage represents an increase of one and a half percentage points compared to the 28 percent registered in the August primaries, the PASO.

The polls will be open until 6:00 p.m. This Sunday, the president, his vice president, 19 parliamentarians from the national district, 24 national senators, 130 national deputies and 24 Mercosur parliamentarians are elected.

In one of its last communications before the start of voting, the National Electoral Chamber has predicted an increase in participation in the elections. The Secretary of Action of the CNE, Sebastián Schimmel, has pointed out, however, that the percentage of voters will not reach the figure from the 2019 general elections, when 80.8 percent of the voters voted.

Schimmel does believe that the participation registered in the elections will be exceeded; he estimated that citizen participation in the general elections will exceed the level that occurred in the PASO.

“Participation in the PASO was 70.4 percent and the expectation is for growth, which always occurs from the PASO to the general ones,” said Schimmel in statements collected by the Argentine radio station Cadena 3.
