MADRID, 27 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Podemos will not participate in the next Catalan elections on May 12 and have reproached the ‘commons’ for making it impossible to reissue the electoral coalition that they had deployed to date, as sources from the purple formation have indicated to Europa Press.
The deadline to register electoral coalitions ended on Saturday morning, but Podemos has considered that the ‘commons’ have put an “end” to their “historical alliance” with the purples, after having attended together the rest of the previous appointments with the polls, and refuse to repeat a joint candidacy again.
The aforementioned sources from the purple party have highlighted that the electoral advance was precipitated after the rejection of the ‘commons’ of the regional budget project of the Generalitat, led by ERC.
For its part, recently the Catalan formation led by Ada Colau expressed that they continued with the door open regarding alliances with Podemos, although they made it clear that the coalition option was complicated, especially after the break with Sumar and his decision to go alone to the European elections.
In this sense, they have stressed that in light of the electoral advance, Podem, the Podemos brand in Catalonia, opted to explore the “best agreements” possible to guarantee a new “clearly” left-wing Government.
In this regard, their priority was to try to achieve an agreement with the ‘commons’, but Podemos has lamented that the attitude of its Catalan partner until now makes it “impossible.”
In this way, the purple formation has concluded that the tight electoral calendar also makes it impossible for Podemos to attend the May 12 elections under any electoral formula. That is, he rules out even appearing alone.
Finally, these sources explain that Podemos will continue working to achieve “the best results in future electoral calls”, as well as to achieve a “strong organization that provides the capacity for transformation and to build stable, feminist, environmentalist governments with a determined commitment for the public.”
In this way, the party led by Ione Belarra will focus this electoral cycle on the Basque elections and the European elections on June 9, the latter elections to which it will participate with the former Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, as a candidate.
