The vice president of CEOMA, Marina Troncoso, has assured that “as clients, older people must be treated with respect and as equals, taking into account their preferences and expectations”

CEOMA has promoted the ‘Friendly Companies’ project, which aims to make private entities and public administrations aware of the need to treat the elderly with respect, and to design adapted products and services.

Madrid, November 30, 2023.- The senior market will experience a growth of 59% in the next 15 years, according to the president of ALBOR CONSULTOR, Alfredo Bohórquez, who together with the Spanish Confederation of Senior Organizations (CEOMA) have participated in the webinar ‘Business success strategies in the senior market’, organized by the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.

Bohórquez spoke about the opportunities in business strategy in this senior market and highlighted that it will be “the market of the future.” Likewise, he explained that “75% of older people live in cities, 89% own their home and the amount of the average pension is €1,248.” He has also assured that companies can offer products and services that respond to the needs of this group and that, to do so, “the information must be clear and simple.” For her part, the vice president of CEOMA, Marina Troncoso, has addressed the issue of diversity and the reality of older people as clients. “We are more than 9.5 million older people in Spain and we are a very heterogeneous group. As clients, older people must be treated with respect, as equals, taking into account their needs, preferences and expectations.” Furthermore, she added that “it is essential that the treatment is personalized and appropriate to the needs of each person.”

Troncoso has insisted that older people “are autonomous, have discretion and control their economy.” For this reason, they must be treated “without paternalism or condescension.” To avoid falling into stereotypes and ageism, CEOMA has promoted the ‘Friendly Companies’ project, an initiative that aims to make private entities and public administrations aware of the need to deal with the group. In addition, the project encourages designing adapted products and services for older people.

The general director of GEROTRANS, Juan Miguel Cabello, and expert collaborator of CEOMA and ALBOR in the ‘Friendly Companies’ project, considers that “the friendliness of companies is a concept of affability.”

“An age-friendly company is one that, in its design, strategy and business execution of products and services, takes into account the needs and preferences of older people as customers, exceeding their expectations and generating a highly satisfactory customer experience and nearby,” he explained. Cabello considers that being accredited as a friendly company “is necessary, timely and strategic”, since it improves in design, differentiates itself and obtains growth opportunities.
