These data on the evolution of violence in a partner or ex-partner in the last 20 years were transferred by the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, this Tuesday to the Council of Ministers, on the occasion of the 16th Report of the State Violence Observatory. about Women.

As detailed in a statement, the XVI Report of the State Observatory of Violence against Women, approved by the Plenary Session of the State Observatory of Violence against Women on March 19, consists of a Statistical Yearbook of Gender Violence, in this case with information for the year 2022, by autonomous community and city with autonomy status and by province.

The Ministry highlights that the total number of murders due to gender violence in the five-year period 2018 – 2022 (since the PSOE came to power), with a total of 250 murders, is the lowest in the historical series with a reduction of 24% with compared to the period 2003-2007, when 340 were registered.

In the case of murders of boys and girls due to vicarious violence, in the last five years analyzed with data from yearbooks, from 2018 to 2022, they have been reduced by 17.8%, with 23 murders compared to the 28 murders committed in the period from 2013 to 2017.

In parallel, the Ministry reports that there has been a progressive increase in the use of available resources such as the use of the Atenpro service, which has increased by 27.56%, there have been 21% more calls to 016 and there is a 70% more protection devices installed.

The 2022 Statistical Yearbook of Gender Violence includes murders due to violence in the partner or ex-partner (previously called “gender”) since 2003 and also includes for the first time information on fatalities outside the partner or ex-partner, 34 in 2022 That year, 41% of the total number of women murdered for reasons of gender were in this area compared to 59% in that of a partner or ex-partner.

In addition, complaints of gender violence are counted. In 2022, 182,065 complaints reached the courts for this reason, which implies a monthly average of 15,172 complaints and a daily average of 499. This represents an increase of 11.8% in the number of complaints compared to 2021.

On the other hand, the report shows that between 2010 and 2022, the number of cases of women victims of gender violence receiving police attention decreases each year until 2016, when there is a slight rebound that becomes accentuated in the following years. As of December 31, 2022, 75,140 women were receiving police attention as victims of gender violence.

Equality points out that there is an 8.2% increase in active cases compared to 2021, but while the number of cases with unappreciated risk is very similar, those that require police protection increased by 14.9%.

The report also collects judicial data on gender violence. As of December 31, 2022, there were 461 courts in operation with jurisdiction over violence against women (113 exclusive and 348 compatible), 37 specialized criminal courts and 71 sections of the Provincial Courts that assumed, exclusively, jurisdiction over violence against women. issues of violence against women. The investment in Free Legal Assistance for the Gender Violence Service amounted to 13.6 million euros in 2022.

The data from the 016 service is also counted and it has been determined that the violence that receives the most consultations is that of a partner or ex-partner (97,732 in 2022) and the most used channel continues to be the telephone call (102,432 in 2022).

Regarding financial aid, between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2022, a total of 11,298 financial aid has been granted to women victims of gender violence under article 27 of the Comprehensive Law, of which 1,405 corresponded to the year 2022 and 1,292, to 2021, which represents an increase of 8.7% in the year.

From January 1, 2011 to December 2022, 20,496 temporary residence and work authorizations have been granted due to exceptional circumstances due to gender violence (to women and their sons and daughters). Of them, 4,270 correspond to 2022.

Regarding the devices for monitoring by telematic means the distancing measures in the field of gender violence, the number of active couples as of December 31, 2022 was 3,056, which represents an increase of 16.6% compared to the same date in 2021.

The report also collects data from the Domestic Violence and Gender Violence Statistics, on victims and those reported with precautionary measures or protection orders registered in the Central Registry for the protection of victims of domestic and gender violence; final sentences; convicted people; imputed infractions; penalties and measures.

Thus, in 2022, 32,644 victims of gender violence were registered with a protection order or precautionary measures, which represented an increase of 8.3% compared to 2021.

The yearbook states that in 2022, 85.7% of crimes against sexual freedom and indemnity were committed against women. The most frequent crime (63.4%) was sexual assault.
