The care, teaching and research work carried out from the clinic reflects UIC Barcelona’s commitment to the comprehensive care of people and their well-being.
On the occasion of its 5th anniversary, the Support clinic has received a visit from the Mayor, the Councilor for Health and Volunteering; and the councilor of Education, Universities, Multiculturalism and Animal Welfare of the Sant Cugat City Council
Sant Cugat del Vallès, May 16, 2024.- The International University of Catalonia (UIC Barcelona) has celebrated the fifth anniversary of Support – University Clinic of Psychology and Psychiatry with an open day attended by Josep Maria Vallès, mayor of Sant Cugat del Vallès; Núria Fernández, Councilor for Health and Volunteering; and Carme Ardid, Councilor for Education, Universities, Multiculturalism and Animal Welfare, both from the Sant Cugat del Vallès City Council, accompanied by Dr. Montserrat Pàmias, medical director of the Clinic and María Fernández Capo, director of the Department of Basic Sciences of the University.
Since its inauguration in 2018, the university clinic located on the Sant Cugat Campus has become a benchmark for psychological and psychiatric care, ensuring the mental health of the population of Vallès Occidental. Throughout these five years of activity, the Support clinic has experienced significant growth and has registered a 400% increase in patients, going from 43 patients in its first year to 215 today. Furthermore, to adapt the clinic’s services to the needs of different groups of the population, the Clinic has created Support Móvil, so that professionals travel to schools, companies and non-profit entities that request it to carry out on-site care. In line with this evolution, the number of professionals working at the Clinic has doubled, which has made it possible to offer broader and more specialized care to the nearly 1,000 patients who have been treated at the Support clinic.
As Dr. Montserrat Pàmias explained during the event, “for us, people’s mental health is fundamental, and it fills us with satisfaction to see that throughout these five years we have been able to contribute to the well-being of children, young people, adults and elderly in our territory, offering affordable care for everyone. “We live in a society where mental health is increasingly given more visibility. As professionals specialized in different areas, we want to promote healthy habits and give our patients an efficient response based on scientific evidence to the mental disorders and discomfort with which they experience are found,” he added.
Teaching and research.
As a university clinic, Support also embodies the values ??and commitment of UIC Barcelona to teaching and research. In this sense, the Clinic is a teaching example where future psychology professionals can receive practical training from the first year. In addition, research also plays a relevant role in the mission of the Clinic and the psychology area of ??the University, where projects are developed in various areas that seek to advance knowledge and its practical application for the benefit of the community in general.
The rector of UIC Barcelona, ??Alfonso Méndiz, was in charge of closing the celebration before visiting the Support facilities. In his speech, he thanked the Sant Cugat City Council for its commitment to the clinic and the promotion of mental health and highlighted that, “as a University committed to people, the Support clinic is for UIC Barcelona an essential project that allows us to help people from the field of mental health and which is added to the oral-dental care and the care and support for people suffering from advanced diseases that we offer with the other two university clinics that the Sant Cugat Campus hosts: the University Dentistry Clinic and Cuides UIC Barcelona, ??focused on care for patients with advanced diseases and palliative care.
