The new mayoress says that her formation “does not deny the merger if the majority of the citizens want it”, and she had to be escorted out of the Imperial Theater
The candidate of the Siempre Don Benito formation, María Fernanda Sánchez, has been elected this Saturday as the new mayoress of the town of Don Benito in Badajoz, with the support of the PP votes.
In this way, the candidate of the Siempre Don Benito formation, opposed to the merger with Villanueva de la Serena, has been elected with 11 votes in favour, those of Siempre Don Benito and the PP, compared to 9 votes in favor of the candidate Socialist, Jose Luis Quintana.
After announcing the result of the vote that has been held at the Teatro Imperial de Don Benito, many of the attendees have broken into applause and congratulations to the new mayoress of Don Benito, while many others have chanted ‘Yes to the merger ‘ and ‘Punch’.
It should be remembered that in the municipal elections of May 28 in Don Benito, the PSOE obtained 9 councilors, while Siempre Don Benito obtained 7, and the PP obtained 5 councilors.
After the proclamation of the new mayoress of Don Benito, the spokesman for the Popular Group, Pedro Noblejas, has taken the floor, lamenting that it has been a “failure” that “tension has established itself among the citizens” of Don Benito, and They have “fed insults and disqualifications, and just for thinking differently.”
Faced with this situation, Noblejas has considered that the “main task” that the new government team has in the coming months “rather than doing works” is “to get citizens to calm down and know how to listen to the neighbors.”
Thus, the spokesperson for the PP has asked the new mayoress, María Fernanda Sánchez, to “pick up the phone and call José Luis (Quintana), so that they “sit down to talk about the needs of the neighbors, who have given us voted.
Pedro Noblejas has defended that “the majority of Dombenitentes want a change”, and in this situation “any change goes through the PP”, due to the loss of PSOE councilors and the possible sum with Siempre Don Benito.
Thus, it has advanced that the PP offers to “restart work in pursuit of a new public consultation, providing information to citizens so that they can choose freely”, stressed Noblejas, who has indicated that “the PP team will be very attentive to the needs of merchants, businessmen and farmers, who are the engine of our city”, and to whom he has asked for “tranquility”.
In this sense, he has reaffirmed that the PP will always be “open and willing to work”, as well as to meet with the mayor of Villanueva de la Serena, and “with the future president of the Junta de Extremadura”.
“We will always be willing to help and collaborate for the good of Don Benito, always with total transparency, which has to be the pillar of this legislature in the city council”, highlighted the PP spokesman, who pointed out that the PP is “moved by Don Benito, and the armchairs and pre-sales do not move us at all”, he concluded.
JOSE LUIS QUINTANA
For his part, the former mayor of Don Benito and PSOE councilor José Luis Quintana, wanted to congratulate all the councilors and the new mayoress of Don Benito in his speech, because “their successes will be our successes”, after a “period of strong growth” of this town.
Regarding the merger with Villanueva de la Serena, Quintana has reported that he started this project that he “understood was exciting for my city” and dedicated “all his strength.”
“I have been a mayor for everyone, and I never forgot one important thing that Don Benito has, which is his minor local entities, I always took them into account”, the visibly moved former mayor pointed out, who pointed out that for this new legislature, Don Benito “needs stability, without stability it will not grow” and he has trusted that the new councilors will work for it.
THE NEW MAYOR
Finally, the new mayoress of Don Benito, María Fernanda Sánchez, recalled that Siempre Don Benito “has emerged from a plural citizen movement, with social and political concerns, and with the aim of “improving the city” and developing new initiatives.
“Many might think that the merger with Villanueva is our raison d’être, and we cannot deny that it has been our root, our primary objective”, stressed Sánchez, who pointed out that this formation does not deny the merger “if the majority of the citizens they want”, but they do reject “frontally that in order to achieve it the established procedures are not complied with”.
Thus, Sánchez mentioned the referendum held last year “with results that were not clear, and that had to be investigated”, after which he pointed out that there has been a party that has been the most voted, in reference to the PSOE, but “the results Don Benito has sent a message to its leaders, not to allow a merger with Villanueva at the expense of its citizens”.
“We cannot allow a failed project to go ahead, since the residents of Don Benito have not expressed clear and resounding support for the merger,” something that, in the mayoress’s opinion, “would resolve a new referendum to which we do not agree.” we deny, as long as it is done with total transparency”.
According to what he said, the members of Siempre Don Benito have not been involved in this project “out of personal ambitions or desire for power”, but because “we believe in democracy and we are determined to devote our energy to defending a political program that has transparency and efficiency in the management of what is public are our flag”, he highlighted.
“We are going to give our all from day one to defend the interests of citizens and we feel supported by the majority of citizens”, concluded María Fernanda Sánchez.
The new mayoress of Don Benito has left the Imperial Theater, where this act of constitution of the new Municipal Corporation has been held, amid shouts and boos from the residents who are favorable to the merger, who sang chants such as ‘Yes to the merger’ and ‘ Don Benito does not love you’, and that has forced María Fernandez Sánchez to have to be escorted by a police cordon during her exit and tour of several of the streets of the town, until these neighbors have dispersed.
