Armed groups claim two new attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria

MADRID, 27 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United States Armed Forces have carried out attacks against two facilities in eastern Syria, where pro-Iran militias were allegedly located, in response to recent attacks against their military bases in the region.

The Secretary of the US Department of Defense, Lloyd Austin, has indicated in a statement that these were “precision self-defense attacks” against locations of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and “affiliated groups.”

“These self-defense attacks, of limited scope, were intended solely to protect and defend US personnel in Iraq and Syria. They are separate and distinct from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement), and do not constitute a change in our approach to the conflict,” he explained.

In this sense, the head of the Pentagon has urged “all state and non-state entities not to undertake actions that could lead to a broader regional conflict,” asserting that Washington “does not seek conflict and has no intention or desire to get involved.” in new hostilities”.

“But these Iranian-backed attacks against US forces are unacceptable and must stop. Iran wants to hide its hand and deny its role in these attacks against our forces. We will not let them,” he stressed before warning that they will not hesitate to take “measures.” necessary to protect” Americans.

Likewise, Austin has indicated that the attacks by armed groups have been “mostly unsuccessful” and recalled that a contractor died in a cardiac incident while taking shelter and 21 other workers suffered minor injuries.

“The president (Joe Biden) has no higher priority than the safety of American personnel, and has directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will not tolerate such attacks and will defend itself, its personnel and its interests,” has settled.

The Islamic Resistance of Iraq, a coalition of Iraqi militias backed by Iran, has claimed responsibility in recent hours for two new attacks against two military bases, one of them in northeastern Syria and the second in northern Iraq.

Throughout the afternoon of this Thursday, the group has published brief statements on its Telegram channel, indicating that they have launched “a barrage of missiles” against the Al Shadadi base, in the Syrian governorate of Al Hasaka; and that they have “hit” the military base in Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan, with two drones.

Washington, which has deployed 900 military personnel to the Middle East due to the security situation in the region, has recently singled out Iran, alleging that it “actively facilitates” these attacks, claimed by militias backed by Tehran that claim to be acting in response to Israel’s bombings. against the Gaza Strip after the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

The Israeli Army’s bombings against the enclave have left more than 7,000 Palestinians dead, including nearly 3,000 children, in a period of just over two weeks. Added to that, more than a hundred Palestinians died in the West Bank in clashes with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and settlers.
