MADRID, 27 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Colombian Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, has reported that nearly 300,000 members of the security forces will “protect” the right to vote in the first round of the elections in Colombia, which will take place this Sunday, May 29.

“At this time I participate in the Monitoring Commission that seeks guarantees for the elections. Our ‘Democracy Plan 2022’ has 300,000 soldiers from the Public Force to protect the right to vote. We take extreme measures in municipalities where there are risks of constraint”, has indicated.

This meeting was attended by the National Registrar of Civil Status of Colombia, Alexander Vega, the Minister of the Interior, Daniel Palacios, Attorney Margarita Cabello, and representatives of political parties and international observers.

In this way, the head of the Colombian Defense portfolio has highlighted that “the public force has made use of its capabilities to guarantee safe elections” this Sunday, according to the newspaper ‘El Heraldo’.

The surveys carried out by Guarumo and EcoAnalítica show a technical tie between the candidates of the Historical Pact and Team for Colombia, Gustavo Petro and Federico ‘Fico’ Gutiérrez, respectively, for the second round of the Colombian presidential elections.

The last hour of the closing of the campaign was marked by the information that Petro declared to have about the possibility that the Government of the still president, Iván Duque, was considering changing the date of the elections, something that Casa Nariño was quick to deny.

“Here it cannot occur to anyone that the elections are going to be suspended or that there are going to be coups. I am a democrat, I have denounced dictators, that is why I denounced Nicolás Maduro, that is why I always denounced the dictatorial whims of Hugo Chávez”, stated Duque during his visit to Davos (Switzerland), as reported by the newspaper ‘El Tiempo’.

Since this Monday, the publication of surveys on presidential aspirations has been prohibited in Colombia and the candidates will not be able to hold public events, although they will be able to grant interviews to the media and meet with their followers in small events in closed spaces.
