A Ukrainian court on Tuesday sentenced two Russian soldiers to eleven and a half years in prison for carrying out artillery attacks against the Kharkov region, located in the east of the country.
“The court has no doubts about the willfulness of his acts. His guilt has been fully proven,” said a Kotelevski district court in the Poltava region, according to the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.

The ruling has come a day after a Ukrainian court filed for the first time a complaint against a Russian soldier for alleged rape in the framework of the invasion unleashed by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A Ukrainian court last week sentenced a Russian soldier identified as Vadim Shishimarin to life in prison for the murder of a civilian as part of the invasion, in the first trial in the country on these charges since the start of the war. Shishimarin’s was the first of more than 9,000 trials that Ukrainian authorities have opened for war crimes since the beginning of the invasion.
