Alan Wake II was a fantastic survival horror game, but one thing missing was the Night Springs episodes from the original adventure. However, the good news is that the Alan Wake II: Night Springs DLC brings back these quirky tales in a playable form. The DLC includes three standalone stories set in the town of Bright Falls and beyond. While the episodes are short, they offer a twisted and entertaining experience.
The first episode, Number One Fan, follows an obsessive Alan Wake fan named Rose Marigold as she embarks on a rescue mission after receiving an SOS from Alan himself. The episode features action-packed gameplay with a focus on gunfights rather than survival mechanics. It’s a fun and campy experience that sets the tone for the rest of the DLC.
The second episode, North Star, slows down the pace and focuses more on puzzles and exploration. Players take on the role of Jesse Faden from Control as she navigates a dark and eerie theme park. While the episode is well-made, it lacks the excitement of the first installment.
The third and final episode, Time Breaker, is the highlight of the DLC. Players step into the shoes of real-world actor Shawn Ashmore, reprising his role as Sheriff Breaker in a meta and mind-bending adventure.
