MADRID, 17 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda has confirmed that all the autonomous communities, in addition to 178 local entities, have requested aid to finance the 30% discounts on subscriptions and multi-trip tickets for public transport services.
The Ministry headed by Raquel Sánchez has received the 16 requests from the communities, including Ceuta and Melilla but not the Canary Islands because it has delegated the powers to the councils, which have requested them.
The application for the aid has been voluntary by the managing administrations of the services, which have the months of July and August to carry out the necessary technical adjustments to implement the reduction in the price of the subscriptions, which will begin on September 1 until December 31st.
Likewise, the Ministry has recalled that regional and local governments can complement direct state aid with their own funds to increase discounts for collective public transport within their jurisdiction.
After the implementation of the measure, the Ministry will make the transfer corresponding to the payment of direct aid throughout the last quarter of 2022
On the other hand, the Executive is working with the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands on two protocols that include the increase in discounts for public transport in these communities, given the special characteristics that insularity implies and the need to articulate policies from the Government of Spain to promote equality between the citizens of the islands and the peninsula.
“A success in the collaboration and dialogue with the different administrations that will ensure the effectiveness of the Government’s effort to guarantee the daily mobility of our citizens in an extraordinary situation derived from the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its consequences on the cost of living of the people”, they have pointed out from the Ministry.
