BARCELONA, 29 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish driver Fernando Alonso (Alpine) has assured that his seventh position in the Monaco Grand Prix are “good points” because it was “very easy” to make a mistake, so they have been “very focused”.
“It’s been a long race. I don’t even know what time it is. It’s been a lot of hours with all the conditions. At the beginning it wasn’t even possible to start because of the level of grip and visibility. We’ve been through all kinds of tyres, it was very easy to commit a mistake and we have been very focused. These are good points”, he pointed out after the Grand Prix.
Regarding his position in the seventh round of the Formula 1 World Championship, Alonso admitted that “they could have been in sixth position”, but he entered a lap “too late” to put on the dry tire. On the last stretch of the race, the Spanish driver explained that they were “not very optimistic” to “do 33 laps with the ‘yellows'”.
“I did a lot of tire management and when they told me that Esteban Ocono had a five-second penalty, I started to open a bit of a gap, but Hamilton didn’t have tires, or the ‘mood’ to go faster. It is what it is,” he said.
