Amazon could be forced “to suspend the activity” of its distribution centers and to “restrict” his service in France, following a decision of the court of Nanterre, he warned in a press release on Wednesday.
The company plans to appeal the decision, which compels them to keep strictly to shipments of essential products, in order to protect the employees in this outbreak period of sars coronavirus. “Our interpretation suggests that we may be forced to suspend the activity of our distribution centres in France,” writes Amazon in a press release.
“Currently, we continue to operate in the country and do everything possible to maintain the level of service expected by our customers in France, the jobs count on our staff (…). However, without the ability to leverage our distribution centres in France, we would be forced to restrict a service that has become essential for the millions of people across the country who wish to have access to the products they need in their homes during this crisis,” warns the group.

For its part, the court considered that the company was “obviously in breach of its obligation of safety and the prevention of the health of employees,” and directed to restrict its activity “only to the activities of receipt of goods, preparation and shipping of orders for goods, food, hygiene and medical, under penalty of a fine of one million euros per day of delay and per offence observed”.

This restriction applies “within 24 hours”, and for a month. Amazon must involve staff representatives in the risk assessment.
