MADRID, 31 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least 14 people have disappeared this Monday after an explosion occurred in a coal mine in the town of El Zulia, in the Norte de Santander department, in Colombia.
The municipality’s health secretary, Gerson Hoyos, has reported that due to the accumulation of gases in the tunnel they have not been able to enter to rescue the workers. “Finding them alive is a remote possibility,” he lamented, as reported by Noticias Caracol.
Thus, Hoyos has stressed that the rescue work after the explosion in the coal mine in El Zulia will not begin until the levels of toxic gases decrease.
Civil Defense of Colombia has published on its Twitter account that “in coordination with other relief agencies, they support the emergency registered in a coal mine, in the municipality of El Zulia, where there are 12 volunteers and an official of the entity, as well as three ambulances”.
“So far, one person has been transferred to a care post with third-degree burns, in addition, air is supplied to the mine with fans to evacuate methane gas residues, and oxygen for people who are trapped,” detailed the organism.
