Railgun, a popular crypto privacy protocol, has successfully stopped Inferno Drainer from laundering stolen funds, forcing the return of over 174 ETH, valued at $533,000, to the original wallet address. Inferno Drainer, known for draining crypto wallets through phishing websites, had previously shut down operations after stealing over $80 million from thousands of victims. However, the group resumed its activities in May, claiming to have drained over $125 million in crypto assets through “private operations.”

Railgun, often seen as an alternative to Tornado Cash for laundering stolen funds, faced scrutiny after being accused of being used by North Korean hacker group Lazarus Group to launder $60 million worth of stolen ETH. Despite the accusations, Railgun denied involvement with sanctioned entities and stated that its system is secure with the ‘Private Proofs of Innocence’ feature.

It is essential for users to be cautious and conduct thorough research before using crypto protocols to prevent falling victim to scams and theft. With the increasing demand for privacy in the crypto space, it is crucial to stay informed about the latest developments and security measures to protect assets from malicious actors.
