Arrimadas agrees to submit to primaries to be the candidate for the generals even if the two-headed model is approved

Ciudadanos does not regret having voted in favor in Congress for the approval of the “only yes is yes” law, promoted by the Ministry of Equality and which has led to reductions in sentences and the release of prisoners convicted of crimes against sexual freedom. Asked this Friday at a press conference, the leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas, has indicated that the party’s position is the one expressed in a message on Twitter by the ‘orange’ spokeswoman for Equality, Sara Giménez, who has said that we must be “responsible and self-critical with what was voted”.
“It is evident that the consequences of the approval of the sexual freedom law are not what this initiative was pursuing. It is time to be responsible and self-critical with what was voted,” Giménez has published.
After assuming responsibilities, Arrimadas has charged against the promoters of the law, describing the government’s attitude of “denying reality” as “absolutely useless”.
“This law has a ruling with terrible consequences. What you have to do is recognize, work quickly to correct it and not attack the judges, that what they do is apply the law,” demanded the ‘orange’ leader, who at the Once he has demanded that Irene Montero’s ministry “hurry up to correct it.”
Arrimadas has criticized the government for being quicker to “lower the penalty for the crime of embezzlement so that those convicted of corruption can take to the streets sooner.”
“All that haste that is taking place to lower the penalties for sedition or embezzlement is what it would have to have to correct a mistake that is obvious, that must be recognized and corrected as quickly as possible,” he said.
Arrimadas has stated that the government is attacking the separation of powers, a “fundamental” pillar of democracy, when some of its ministers criticize the judges and “hold them responsible for their own mistakes.”
On the other hand, the party leader has promised to go through primaries before the general elections, a vote that was originally going to take place in January 2023 but that in the end has been postponed when announcing this week a proposal arising from the listening process and with which the party would cease to have a presidency and would have two directions, one organic and the other political.
Arrimadas has appeared at a press conference from the party’s national headquarters together with Ilhan Kyuchyuk and Timmy Dooley, co-presidents of ALDE, an alliance of European liberal parties, who have held meetings this week in Madrid with the team for the refoundation of Ciudadanos.
“The party model will be decided by the militancy and of course the candidate for the Presidency of the Government will be chosen by primaries, I suppose that no one of the affiliates will want to change it,” Arrimadas assured this Friday.
