MADRID, 26 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least eleven newborns died on Wednesday due to a fire in the neonatology wing of a hospital located in the Senegalese city of Tivaouane, located in the west of the country, as confirmed by the Senegalese president, Macky Sall.
“I have just learned with pain and dismay of the death of eleven newborns in the fire registered in the neonatal service of the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Badakh hospital in Tivaouane,” he said in a message on his Twitter social network account.
“I transfer my deep compassion to their mothers and their families,” said the president, who has not ruled for now on the possible causes of the event.
The incident comes about a year after the death of four newborns in a fire in the maternity ward of another hospital in Senegal, a tragedy then blamed on an electrical failure in the air conditioning system.
