MADRID, 30 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, offered the city of Istanbul on Monday as a new venue for negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian sides, in what seems like a new attempt to resume talks that have had little impact so far.

The offer was made by Erdogan himself during a telephone call to Russian President Vladimir Putin, to whom he told that Turkey and its authorities are prepared to play an observer role in a hypothetical meeting between Russia, Ukraine and the envoys of United Nations.

Since the first rapprochements between Moscow and kyiv began after President Putin’s announcement of invading Ukraine three months ago, Turkey has offered to host these meetings on several occasions. In fact, Istanbul hosted at the end of March what has been the most fruitful event so far.

Previously, the Turkish city of Antalya hosted on March 10 the first face-to-face meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine, Sergei Lavrov and Dimitro Kuleba, respectively. Belarus has been the scene of several meetings between the negotiating delegations.
