In the Rotterdam Congress, he complains about the low execution of funds by Sánchez and demands to know reforms such as pensions
ROTTERDAM, June 1. (From the special envoy of Europa Press, Marisa Piqueras) –
The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has presented himself this Wednesday as the “alternative” and the “immediate future” in Spain in the face of the “weakness” and “internal division” of the Executive led by Pedro Sánchez. After emphasizing that the PP “represents hope” and “symbolizes stability”, he has said that he understands the “misgivings” that exist in Europe due to the “opacity and low execution of European funds” and has demanded to know about the reforms announced in Brussels, such as that of pensions.
This is how he pronounced himself in his speech before the plenary session of the Congress of the European People’s Party (EPP) that is being held in Rotterdam (Holland), which has elected the German Manfred Weber president of the EPP, replacing the Polish Donald Tusk. In the new direction will be the Valencian MEP Esteban González Pons, who will occupy a Vice Presidency.
After expressing his “immense pride” for participating for the first time before the EPP, the “most important political family” in the EU, he stated that he was bringing three messages to Rotterdam that can be summed up in three words: “stability, hope and future”.
Just when four years have passed since the motion of censure promoted by Pedro Sánchez against Mariano Rajoy, the leader of the PP has stressed that his party “symbolizes the stability of constitutional Spain” that the current government “is not capable of guaranteeing”. “The Spanish PP represents hope for many compatriots who do not want a country without direction. And the Spanish Popular Party is the immediate future of Spain”, he has proclaimed.
Feijóo has admitted that these two days, in which he has held more than a dozen bilateral meetings within the framework of the conclave, “many” have asked him about economic, social and territorial issues that live in Spain.
“I want to send a message of calm, we are available as an alternative. Of course, I understand your misgivings about the opacity and low execution of European funds. I understand the concern about the internal division and the external weakness of the Government of my country. I share your unease by the position towards NATO of a part of the Spanish Executive and the consequent distrust of our international partners”, has stated
In the same way, he said he was aware of the “surprise” caused in Europe by the “very high indebtedness of Spain” and added that he is also aware of the “concern about inflation” in Spain, “above that suffered by all of Europe and for which he has refused to take action”.
“And I also agree that we must know, inside and outside of Spain, immediately, the reforms announced in Brussels, especially the one that has to do with the future of pensions for our elders, on which they have committed structural changes that have not yet we know,” he stressed.
