First Arch Linux ISO Release Powered by Linux 6.9 Is Now Available for Download

The Arch Linux ISO snapshot for June 2024 is now available for download, powered by Linux kernel 6.9, for those planning to deploy the popular rolling-release distribution on new computers.

Arch Linux 2024.06.01 is the first Arch Linux ISO snapshot to come with the latest and greatest Linux 6.9 kernel series by default, which should give you a boost when detecting hardware, especially on newer devices but also older ones where previous Arch Linux ISOs didn’t detect some of your components.

Arch Linux 2024.06.01 is powered by **Linux kernel 6.9.3** by default. This kernel arrived a few weeks ago in Arch Linux’s stable repositories, meaning existing users who regularly update their systems received the new kernel version. Arch Linux 2024.06.01 also includes all the updated packages released in May 2024.

In addition, Arch Linux’s June 2024 ISO snapshot includes the latest **Archinstall 2.8** menu-based installer, which was released on April 15th, 2024. This version increases the default size of the **ESP system partition** to **1 GB** so that users no longer run out of space, updates microcode handling, and adds udev sync before lsblk that follows formatting to improve automatic partitioning.

The **Archinstall 2.8** installer also updates the link on how to resize the booted ISO root partition, add the ability to set a keyboard layout for the minimal installation, switches from the weekly official to the daily official image, improves displaying of installed packages for all profile submenus, and fixes various issues affecting Btrfs mount options, GRUB boot directory, fstab line endings, enabling of testing repositories, custom mirrors, and the start and length of the /home partition.

Arch Linux 2024.06.01 is available for download from the official website. Of course, this ISO release is here only for new installations as existing Arch Linux users can keep their installations up to date by running the **sudo pacman -Syu** command in their favorite terminal emulator.
