MADRID, 30 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna, arrived in the Ukrainian capital, kyiv, on Monday, making her the highest-ranking official to travel to the European country since the start of the Russian offensive, triggered on 24 February.
“In Ukraine to underline France’s support for the Ukrainian people,” Colonna said in a brief message on his official Twitter account, where he also published a photograph of himself at the Ukrainian capital’s train station.
The French Foreign Ministry has indicated in a statement that Colonna “wishes to show France’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people and its firm determination to strengthen its support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, both in humanitarian and financial terms and in terms of delivery of defense equipment.
Thus, he stressed that the minister will visit the city of Bucha and “deliver civil security material”, including fire trucks and ambulances, after which he will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dimitro Kuleba, and with the president of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky.
In this regard, he stated that Colonna and Kuleba will address “France’s support for Ukraine in all fields, in particular the blockade of grain and oilseed exports from Ukraine, which creates real risks of food insecurity and requires finding as quickly as possible concrete solutions to remedy it”.
“The minister will also greet on this occasion the staff of the Embassy in kyiv, whose exemplary behavior has allowed France to remain at the side of the Ukrainian people and French citizens in Ukraine since the beginning of the war,” he stressed.
