MADRID, 21 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Territorial Policy and Government Spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, has assured today that the text of the Law for the real and effective equality of trans people and the guarantee of the rights of LGTBI people, the so-called ‘Trans Law’, It is the position of the Government as a whole.
This is how the Executive Spokesperson responded, during a visit to the Arganda del Rey town hall, after the controversy caused by Podemos, due to the fear that the PSOE could remove gender “self-determination” from the text, which does not entail the need for medical reports in order to capture the gender change in the registry. An issue that has generated controversy in the Socialist Party itself, against which socialist feminists such as Carmen Calvo have spoken out.
The Minister of Territorial Policy has indicated, in this regard, that the Trans Law is “very important” and has stressed that “the Government has stated in that text what its position is, which is that of the Government as a whole”.
Now, he added, in Congress the groups have to do their job, but he stressed that “there is no doubt” that the PSOE “is the party that brought the rights and freedoms for the LGTBI collective, the Trnas people and fights discrimination every day”.
Regarding Carla Antoneli’s decision to withdraw from the PSOE due to the delay in processing the Law, after extending the deadline for the amendments, and fearing that they would suppress gender self-determination, Isabel Rodríguez has just saying he respects her.
