BARCELONA, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Czech cyclist Jan Hirt (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) won this Tuesday the sixteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia, 202 kilometers between Salò and Aprica, in a final pulse with the also escaped Thymen Arensman (Team DSM), in a stage somewhat decaffeinated queen from which leader Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers) emerged unscathed.

There was a large escape, with the Spanish Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) in it, but the passage of 200 kilometers and the more than 5,000 meters of accumulated difference in altitude were ‘warming up’ legs until Jan Hirt, who attacked in the last height of Valico di Santa Cristina, was able to with the rest of the adventure companions.

Among the candidates to take this 105th edition of the ‘pink corsa’, there were hardly any attacks and the few differences that existed at the finish line were due to bonuses or the seconds lost by, among others, Joao Almeida when he fell from Maduro -and not by attacks themselves from the rivals– on the tough slopes of the Valico, after a Passo del Mortirolo for nothing historic.
