MADRID, 22 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish international Laia Aleixandri defines herself as “a very ambitious player” and acknowledged that she wants “to be in the group of players summoned for the European Championship and do something great”, while she was “super grateful” to Atlético de Madrid for the tribute that they gave him as a farewell in his last game as a rojiblanca.
“I always describe myself as a very ambitious player who is always looking for the best version of herself and when she finds it, she knows that there is another one above her. I am ambitious to be in the group of players called up for the European Championship and do something great”, declared Laia Aleixandri to Europa Press after an act in which she was presented as ambassador of the ‘Responsible Driving, Beer WITHOUT’ campaign.
Aleixandri also explained that “on an individual level as a footballer” he hopes for the best in his new team, which although it is not official, it is speculated that he will play outside of Spain. “In the step that I am going to take in my sports career, I hope it is a big step, that it comes accompanied by that effort and that work that I have every day and break that barrier with my talent,” he commented.
The defense, which debuted with the Spanish team in 2019, sees the great summer tournament with the national team as something “very exciting”. “The players are also now finishing seasons, but we all know that during this season we had in mind to reach the European Championship in the best conditions and, above all, to work day by day so that when it begins, we can realize our dream step by step,” he said.
The young player, only 21 years old, does know what it is to participate in national team tournaments, but this will be her first opportunity to play one with the senior team. “Luckily I have lived all the experiences at the level of lower categories and at the absolute level because it is surely a different experience, a unique experience that I am sure I will remember for life,” she assured.
“In the end it is a very different environment because you go to the Spanish team, you get together, you train, you compete with the best players in Spain and that in the end gives you one more plus, and it is a privilege to share a dressing room with the Ballon d’Or ( Alexia Putellas) as with many other colleagues who have a very high level”, he declared.
Aleixandri, who leaves Atlético de Madrid after five seasons, is “very grateful” for what she experienced. “All these years in which I have learned so much and grown so much, they have seen reflected in me that commitment, that ambition, that effort and that talent that I have offered to the club and they have given it back to me in this way”, he explained.
“For me it is a privilege to have been at this farewell together with Amanda (Sampedro) and Silvia (Meseguer), who are players who have been at the club for many years and who are truly ‘one club’ players. For me it has been an honor and I am super grateful to the club for how they have fired me after finishing this stage,” said the Catalan footballer.
In addition, he confesses that “some other” thorn does “stay stuck” in his time at Atlético. “You always want to win the biggest titles possible and in the end these last two or three seasons you haven’t been able to achieve both the goals of getting into the ‘Champions’ and winning titles,” he said.
However, the player says to stay “with the learning” of that most negative part. “In the end it has been my first stage as a professional and I have been able to win two leagues, a Super Cup, an ‘MVP’ and these are things that I value very much,” she stressed.
“I’m young, that’s why I say to live day by day, to continue learning, to continue improving and that positive reinforcement also from being so young, having so much experience and carrying it on my back and then solving situations that I can find so much inside of the field as if it were in another way and from another perspective”, concluded Aleixandri.
