He charges Judge García Castellón for acquitting Aguirre in Púnica and slips that there may be people who think he “protects the corrupt”

MADRID, 17 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Podemos has assured that it will not allow “vetoes or conditions” by the PP in the negotiation on the profiles proposed by the confederal space to renew the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).

At a press conference this Monday, the co-spokesperson for the purple formation, Pablo Fernández, has assured that they are “informed” and “up to date” on the contacts that the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, makes with the popular parties, after claiming last week a more active role of Podemos in said negotiation.

In turn, he has promised that United We Can is going to prevent “any ploy” or “trick” by the PP to try to control the Judiciary “through the back door”, stressing that there can be no “vetoes or conditions” of the party he leads Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in allusion to the vocal proposals.

And it is that Fernández has launched that “it is not news or novelty” the PP’s opposition to Podemos candidates being in the CGPJ, to urge the main opposition party to “depose” its “seditious” attitude with a view to reach agreement.

In the previous negotiation that was finally frustrated, the names of jurists who would have the agreement of Podemos were alluded to, such as Judge José Ricardo de Prada and there was even talk of the current Government delegate against Gender Violence, Vicky Rosell.

During his appearance, the Podemos co-spokesman denounced that “it is neither acceptable nor sustainable” for the PP to continue “kidnapping” the Judiciary “bypassing the law”, stating that “the right wing strikes at democracy when democracy yields results that the PP does not like”.

On the other hand, he has launched that among “those who protect the corrupt there are people who think that there are judges who protect the corrupt”, as may be the case of the magistrate of the National Court Manuel García Castellón.

And it is that Fernández has been very critical of the judge’s decision to “shelve” the accusation against the former president of the Community of Madrid Esperanza Aguirre of the Púnica case for not having knowledge of irregularities, while he has maintained that there could be a witness in the case that could provide evidence of his involvement.

He has also criticized that García Castellón has tried to try “unsuccessfully” on different occasions to “prosecute” former Vice President Pablo Iglesias and leaders of Podemos in other processes.

Finally, he has demanded the entry into prison of his own free will or by action of the State Security Forces of the “corrupt” former judge Salvador Alba after being convicted of crimes of judicial prevarication, bribery and falsehood in a public document imposed in November 2021.

In this regard, the leader of Podemos has denounced that Alba dedicated himself to making “lawfare” (an Anglo-Saxon term that refers to judicial warfare for political purposes) against Rosell and “inventing causes for political purposes”, a behavior that he has described as ” attack on democracy”.
