BILBAO, 30 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The secretary of the Organization of Podemos, Lilith Verstrynge, has defended the electoral unity of the left but has warned, in order to form a coalition candidacy with Sumar, that it is “essential” that it not produce “late, badly and in door-to-door offices closed”.

In statements to Radio Euskadi, collected by Europa Press, Verstrynge thus analyzed a possible coalition between Podemos and Sumar, the platform led by the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, facing the next general elections.

After considering “obvious that times are pressing” in order to finalize the details under which to attend the elections, he stressed that this should “seek solutions as soon as possible.”

“On behalf of Podemos, we believe that the task is done. Both at the organizational level and, in view of the regional and municipal elections, at the level of the electoral brand and of candidates. Having it ready is the best way for an agreement to be reached in the better ways,” he said.

In this way, he has remarked that the purple formation defends the importance of “unity, even more than the name of the candidate.” “In order to achieve this unity, it is essential that it not be late and bad, in offices behind closed doors, but progressively, working with people”, he has expressed.

In this context, he recalled that Podemos is always committed to a system of primaries so that “everyone can choose their representatives.”

“Unity is not going to be given in the best conditions if it is done quickly, late and through agreements in offices. In previous electoral calls, such as in Andalusia, the agreement at the last moment was not the best solution to achieve that unity. What we are saying is that there is another way and one of the main ones is for people to choose what they want,” he asserted.

In his opinion, the priority is to “ensure unity rather than the candidates.” “Candidates, there are many options. If Yolanda Díaz is the candidate, she has to ensure that she is capable of building that unit,” she concluded.
