MADRID, 29 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Sunday at 8:00 a.m. (3:00 p.m. Spanish peninsular time) the polling stations have opened in the presidential elections in Colombia, without any incident being reported for the moment.

The main favorites in this vote are the candidate of the left-wing coalition Historical Pact, Gustavo Petro, and the conservative Team for Colombia led by Federico ‘Fico’ GutiĆ©rrez. If none of the candidates obtains half of the votes, the two most voted will dispute the Presidency in a second round scheduled for June 19.

A total of 38,029,475 Colombians will be able to exercise their right, including the 972,754 registered abroad who during the last week have been able to attend the voting points set up in other countries.

In total, 12,513 voting stations have been enabled, 12,263 in Colombia and 250 abroad, with 102,152 tables, of which 1,343 correspond to foreign countries.

In addition, the EU Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) has reported that it has 3,539 national and international electoral observers deployed in 467 municipalities throughout Colombia.

Regarding security, the authorities have prepared a special device in the twelve departments of the country with a historical presence of armed groups. Specifically, 300,000 soldiers and police officers have been deployed within the framework of the so-called Democracy Plan.
