Rare Hulk Xbox found in Oxford charity shop ‘worth thousands’
A rare Hulk-branded Xbox console, one of only 50 ever made, has been discovered in an Oxford charity shop and could potentially fetch thousands of pounds at auction. The vivid green gaming device, created to promote the 2003 Hulk superhero film, was generously donated to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop. With a current bid of over £400 in an online sale, the console is expected to draw significant interest until the auction closes on 15 June.
BHF tester Paul Smith, who identified the console’s rarity, expressed his excitement over the discovery. He noted that the unique green color, combined with the iconic Hulk and Pepsi logo, made the device particularly eye-catching. The Xbox was originally distributed as a prize in a UK cinema scratchcard competition, with only 36 units claimed and approximately 20 located to date.
Highlighting the scarcity of the Hulk Xbox, the charity’s eBay listing emphasized its limited availability compared to a similar green Xbox variant released in the USA for Mountain Dew. While 5,000 units of the American version were produced, the Hulk-branded console remains exceedingly rare, with none currently listed or sold on eBay. Proceeds from the auction will contribute to funding research on heart and circulatory diseases.
The original Microsoft Xbox, introduced in Europe in 2002, marked the tech giant’s entry into the gaming console market. Competing against industry leaders like Sony’s Playstation 2 and Nintendo’s GameCube, the Xbox garnered a global audience, selling 24 million units worldwide. Notable launch titles such as Halo: Combat Evolved and Project Gotham Racing helped establish the Xbox as a formidable player in the console wars.
As the auction for the rare Hulk Xbox continues, gaming enthusiasts and collectors alike are eager to see how much the exclusive device will ultimately sell for. The unique history and limited availability of this special edition console make it a highly sought-after item among fans of gaming memorabilia.
