Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica Remakes Reportedly in the Works at Capcom – IGN

Following the massive success of the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes, Capcom is setting its sights on remaking Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica. According to a report by Dusk Golem on Twitter/X, remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are currently in development. IGN has independently confirmed that Zero and Code Veronica are indeed the next two Resident Evil titles to receive the remake treatment. While Capcom has yet to officially comment on these reports, fans are already buzzing with excitement.

Resident Evil Zero first made its debut on the GameCube back in 2002 as a prequel to the original Resident Evil game from 1996. The story revolves around the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team in the Arklay Mountains, with players taking on the roles of police officer Rebecca Chambers and convicted former Force Reconnaissance Officer Billy Coen. The game received an HD remaster in 2016, followed by releases on the Nintendo Switch in 2019.

On the other hand, Code Veronica was initially released for the Dreamcast in 2000 as the fourth main installment in the Resident Evil series and the first to launch on a non-PlayStation console. The game follows siblings Claire Redfield and Chris Redfield as they fight for survival on a remote prison island in the Southern Ocean. Code: Veronica broke away from the pre-rendered backgrounds of its predecessors, opting for real-time 3D environments with dynamic camera movement. The game was later remastered for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and is currently playable through backwards compatibility.

Fans of the Resident Evil franchise will not be surprised by the news of more remakes in the pipeline, as Capcom hinted at the possibility late last year. During a PlayStation partner awards event in Japan, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo expressed the company’s intention to continue remaking classic titles. He mentioned that the positive reception to the remakes so far has been encouraging, and hinted that more remakes were on the horizon.

While fans eagerly await more details on the Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica remakes, Capcom is also hard at work on the next mainline installment, tentatively titled Resident Evil 9. However, the next major release from Capcom is expected to be Monster Hunter Wilds, set to launch sometime in 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Resident Evil remakes and other Capcom titles as they develop.
