MADRID, 27 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Liverpool’s Scottish winger, Andy Robertson, believes that the Champions League final is the “greatest game in world football” and that although they know that “Real Madrid is a club that wins finals”, he recalled that the ‘red’ also “has history” and that their fans “ask them to win games like this”.
“The season has gone like this in the Premier, Sunday was a roller coaster, more for the fans than for us, who didn’t know what was happening on the pitch. Now we are facing the biggest game in world football, we know what It awaits us and we are ready”, commented Robertson this Friday at the press conference prior to the Champions League final.
The defender believes that Real Madrid have “had a calmer preparation because they won the league two or three weeks ago and have been able to relax a bit, with less rhythm and less intensity.” “This year we wanted to play for everything, we knew we wanted to win every title and we have prepared for it. We want to make it difficult for them,” he declared.
The Liverpool player highlighted the importance for his fans ahead of this final. “We know that they are confident and that they are a club that wins finals, but Liverpool also has its history and the fans ask us to win games like this,” he assured.
Andy Robertson hasn’t imagined being the hero of the final like Alan Kennedy, also a left-back, was with Liverpool against Real Madrid in 1981. “I haven’t thought about that. We can’t think about history or scoring goals because very little happens, I have only thought about giving my best version in the match and if we do everything we have the best chance of winning”, he stated.
The international acknowledges that they have not thought about the final lost to the same rival in kyiv in 2018 either. “We did well by winning the Champions League final in Madrid the following season and that’s how we proved to be champions. We are focused on winning the trophy, when you reach a final it’s very close, but it’s something very difficult to overcome. We’ve had a week of preparation, although on Sunday it was disappointing, on Monday we felt like that and on Tuesday we came back with a lot of enthusiasm for tomorrow’s game”, Robertson explained.
The Scotsman doesn’t care about the changes in Liverpool’s attack, because he has had a “good relationship” with all the players and that within the squad “there are changes that don’t change the level.” “Playing with different players in front of me means that we have a lot of quality players in the squad. We have all been focused at the same pace and that’s why we have had a good season winning more games than losing,” he concluded.
